TUKWILA — Already missing Nathan and fresh off trading away Xavier Arreaga, the Seattle Sounders will be without another centerback for at least the next couple of weeks. Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer revealed on Tuesday that Yeimar Goméz Andrade suffered an unidentified muscle injury, but declined to elaborate on the exact nature or length of absence until the MRI results are back. Yeimar came out of Sunday’s game in the 85th minute after seemingly signaling an injury to his right quadricep.
After missing the first two games of the season while recovering from an offseason procedure, Yeimar had started each of the past eight games and seemed to be returning to the form that made him a Defender of the Year finalist in 2023.
In his place, the Sounders are most likely to turn to Jon Bell, who began the season no better than fifth on the centerback depth chart. Here’s a quick look at Schmetzer’s options:
